Brian Kinkade, a board member of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital Denver chapter, wanted to get the word out on St Jude’s Give Thanks Walk on November 17, a walkathon to help fund research on childrens’ disease. Brian has been part of the Breaking News Network in Denver, and we’re always committed to helping good community causes. Together with St Jude’s development director Sarah Ford, we wanted to test how social media might be able to spread the word of the Give Thanks Walk not only in the Metro Denver area but across the 80+ American cities where the walk is being held. We set up a Twitter and Facebook campaign starting three months before the November 17 event date so our communities are aware of the Walk.
We’ve been varying the message every other week, and running our messages in different hours, like public service announcements on radio, through November 17.
We’re coordinating the campaign with John Avola, who manages social marketing for the St Jude Organization. We’re retweeting the video of the kids of St Jude singing Hey Jude across our cities:
We hope you join St Jude’s Walk in your city here. For more information on the Breaking News Network’s cause initiatives, contact us at breakingcauses@gmail.com.
